Understanding the Procedure
One of the most important aspects of the dental implant procedure is the pre-planning phase. Taking the time to organizing a care plan that addresses each of your oral health needs will save you time and money in the long run, while ensuring the best results. Dr. Kirschner will work closely with your surgeon, following your movement through the process.
On the day of your surgery, sedation and anesthesia will be administered help you relax. Once you're comfortable, your surgeon will make a small incision in your gums and create pilot holes in your jawbone. The small, titanium screws will then be inserted into the bone and your incisions will be closed. The process of osseointegration, when the bone and implant fuse together, can take up to six months. During this period of time, temporary restorations can be placed to maintain the aesthetics of your smile.
Once your jawbone has properly healed, a minor surgery may be required to place the abutment - the piece that connects the implant to the restoration. After an additional two weeks of healing, you will return to Plymouth General Dentistry to have your permanent crown, bridge, or denture placed.
Your Restoration Options
One of the greatest benefits to choosing Plymouth General Dentistry for your dental implant restoration is our wide variety of tooth replacement options. No matter which type of restoration is best for you, Dr. Kirschner will ensure that it looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth to give you the best result.
- Dental Crowns
- Used most often for single tooth replacement procedures, a dental crown is a shell of porcelain customized to fit your bite and blend naturally into your smile.
- Dental Bridges
- To replace more than one missing tooth in a row, Dr. Kirschner can use a dental bridge. Essentially a group of two or more dental crowns, a dental bridge is a single restoration used for multiple tooth replacement procedures.
- Replacing all of your teeth has never been more efficient than with implant-supported dentures. Eliminate the messy adhesive and uncomfortable fit of traditional dentures by anchoring them to dental implants.
